Aluminium does not rust, which is one reason it is popular for windows, doors and kitchens in Oman. It still needs a little care. Near the sea, salt and fine dust settle on frames and in tracks, and over time that makes sliding parts stiff and finishes dull.
Clean the frames
- Wash frames with fresh water and a mild soap, then rinse and wipe dry.
- Use a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid scourers, wire wool and strong solvents — they scratch and strip the finish.
- In homes close to the sea, do this more often than you would inland.
Keep the tracks clear
Sliding windows and doors run on tracks that collect sand.
- Vacuum or brush the tracks, then wipe them out.
- Check the small drainage holes at the bottom of the frame are not blocked, so water can get out.
- A little silicone spray on rollers keeps them moving smoothly. Avoid oil, which holds dust.
Look after seals and hardware
- Rubber seals and brushes keep out dust and water. If they are cracked or flattened, have them replaced.
- Hinges, handles and locks: wipe them clean and check that screws are tight.
Kitchens and wardrobes
Aluminium kitchen and wardrobe units do not swell with moisture. Wipe them down with a damp cloth and mild cleaner; dry any standing water around the sink.
When to call us
If a sliding door has become hard to move, a lock does not catch, or water is getting in around a frame, it is usually a roller, a seal or a blocked drain — a small repair. Message us on WhatsApp with a photo.
